Should facilities be offered to people that want to purchase a PHEV?

During the last few years, a lot of people all over the world expressed their intentions to buy a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle and the number is expected to grow in the near future. However, most of them are discouraged by the acquisition price that is at least ten thousand dollars bigger than in the case of a regular vehicle. Different political figures, like Hillary Clinton, have expressed their intentions to make these vehicles accessible to the population in order get rid of the dependence of foreign oil and reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that do a lot of harm to the nature and population. They have stated that government subventions should be offered to people for encouraging the development of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles and also lead to mass production. These subventions can take the form of tax credits and can reach the equivalent of the difference people pay for a PHEV instead of buying a normal car. The United States can take a huge advantage form hybrid cars because they can reduce the oil demand to levels that can covered easier. At the same time, big cities won't be so polluted and the urban population's health will get better.

The first step can be represented by cutting a few percents of the taxes from big transport companies that start equipping their huge fleets with PHEV technology, saving a lot of gasoline and reducing the carbon dioxide emissions. This method can be efficient in the short term because the transport companies require much more fuel and produce more pollution than people driving regular cars produce and they also have the means of upgrading the existing fleet. The authorities should definitely accord these facilities to people that want to purchase a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle because they will have great benefits on the long term and these funds can be considered an investment in the future of the world's population, health and the good of the planet.
