The power of example

Because the world is on the verge of a big scale oil crisis and pollution has reached very high levels, people have to turn themselves towards alternative power. But a lot of persons are reticent when it comes to changing something they've done their whole lives and that everybody else does, like using gas as the only fuel for their cars. But two leading companies in their domains have decided to try and offer an example for all of us. Coca Cola announced the start of collaboration with Duke Energy for a research initiative meant to promote the PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) technology. This move can also be considered a potential suggestion for the people to start orienting themselves towards cleaner and more efficient ways of transport, without using so much gas. Coca Cola has revealed a project that consists in equipping its hybrid vehicle fleet with PHEV kits that are going to extend battery sizes in order to obtain a better efficiency and lower fuel consumption.

The beverage company currently owns one of the biggest hybrid fleet of about 400 vehicles and this will show people and especially big transport companies that equipping their vehicles with this new technology can have positive effects on fuel economy and CO2 emissions. They have also stated that this is only the first step in promoting alternative energy and fuel use and this is a campaign that targets the civic spirit of the American society in order to reduce the oil's importance and prevent further pollution. The Coca Cola and Duke Energy initiative deserves a lot of consideration as they are probably the first companies that initiate this kind of measures and show that they care about the planet and society.
